INTRODUCTION:
Do you want to build your confidence in a fun, creative environment? If so, this is the course for you.
Advanced Actor Training is an exciting new course which enables participants to develop in-depth skills in a range of dramatic areas. This course will support you to enhance your improvisation, performing, acting and directing skills. You will work as part of a professional production team to write, stage and act in your own devised theatre piece. You will have the opportunity to perform on a daily basis. All aspects of this course are designed to develop your confidence and communication skills. You will partake in regular theatre trips throughout the year to gain inspiration. Upon graduating from this course, you will be equipped with a Drama QQI Level 6 Award and the experience, confidence and skills to succeed.
This course is delivered by highly qualified and experienced experts in the industry.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
- Leaving Certificate, QQI Level 5 in a related area, or equivalent.
- Students that do not have a QQI Level 5 award are eligible to apply for this course if they can demonstrate acting ability.
- Mature students are welcome to apply (experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications).
- Places are awarded on suitability.
- All applicants will be required to attend an interview.

CERTIFICATION:
- Level 6 QQI Advanced Certificate in Drama (6M3566).
COURSE CONTENT:
Students will be examined in 8 subject areas. The following subjects may be offered:
Theatre Studies - 6N3565
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to critically engage with theatre as a medium and to develop the ability to articulate an understanding of theatre and apply it in practice.
Solo Acting Performance 6N5430.
This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to identify personal strengths in performance and compile a linked, thematic audition and examination solo programme.
Engaging with Drama - 6N3545
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to understand the dramatic process, and engage with this process as a practitioner.
Characterisation - 6N3551
The purpose of this award is to equip the learners with the knowledge, skill and competence to create methodology for establishing characterisation.
Improvisation - 6N3552
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to understand and engage with the improvisation process as a drama practitioner
Creating Drama - 6N3546
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to engage in the creation of drama as a practitioner in a variety of drama contexts.
Communications
The purpose of this award it to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to communicate verbally and non-verbally in a comprehensive range of everyday tasks and in work related tasks independently and/or in a supervisory capacity.
Personal and Professional Development 6N1949
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to utilise a range of advanced personal and interpersonal skills in a variety of personal, civic and specific vocational contexts, whereby the learner may be operating autonomously or in a supervisory capacity.
EDUCATION PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES:
Graduates can:
- Apply to continue in diploma or degree performing arts programmes.
- Pursue professional work following graduation in a range of exciting areas (acting, directing, performing, drama facilitation, writing, theatre production).
