INTRODUCTION:
An advanced course in Actor Training, offering training to reach professional performing standards. This is an advanced course for applicants with relevant experience. Participants work in a performing company and are in production throughout the academic year in a professional theatre.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
- Leaving Certificate, QQI Level 5 in a related area, or equivalent.

For mature applicants appropriate experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications
- All applicants will be required to attend an interview

COURSE CONTENT:
Students will be examined in 8 subject areas. The following subjects may be offered:
Theatre Studies - 6N3565
- The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to critically engage with theatre as a medium and to develop the ability to articulate an understanding of theatre and apply it in practice.
Engaging with Drama - 6N3545
- The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to understand the dramatic process, and engage with this process as a practitioner.
Characterisation - 6N3551
- The purpose of this award is to equip the learners with the knowledge, skill and competence to create methodology for establishing characterisation.
Improvisation - 6N3552
- The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to understand and engage with the improvisation process as a drama practitioner
Creating Drama - 6N3546
- The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to engage in the creation of drama as a practitioner in a variety of drama contexts.
Communications
- The purpose of this award it to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to communicate verbally and non-verbally in a comprehensive range of everyday tasks and in work related tasks independently and/or in a supervisory capacity.
Work Experience
- The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to participate in the workplace for a limited time, carrying out work-related tasks autonomously and/or in a supervisory capacity.
EDUCATION PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES:
Graduates continue in diploma or degree performing arts programmes, such as musical theatre, drama and theatre studies. Some decide to pursue technical production or design, writing, teaching, etc. Others pursue professional work following graduation.
