Sustainable Food Production

INTRODUCTION:
The aim of this coarse is to provide students with an understanding of the entire food chain, from on-farm production to human consumption as well as the scientific principles behind it.
The area of sustainably producing food to meet the nutritional requirements of a growing population, and the impacts on food production and consumption is a pressing challenge within today’s society.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
- Leaving Certificate (LC Established, LCVP or LCA) or equivalent.
- For mature applicants appropriate experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications
- All applicants will be required to attend an interview
- Some practical experience in horticulture desirable
DURATION:
One year full-time.

Designed to develop an understanding of plant identification and an ability to understand their uses.
Soil Science and Growing Media - 5N2530
Aims to provide the learner with a broad comprehension of the composition of soil types, .
Fruit and Vegetable Production - 5N255
Applies a broad range of mathematical skills and tools to a wide variety of contexts, with theoretical understanding.

This is an exciting, challenging, and fast changing area of education and will provide students with the necessary tools to progress to third level education or gain employment.
This course will give students the foundation needed to pursue areas of both horticulture and food related areas.
